Top 20-American Idol 7 February 28, 2008

Filed under: ENTERTAINMENT, PARENTING — PinkMama @ 12:16 pm

I watched both shows last night (thanks DVR). I really enjoy to see what everyone was going to do for the 70’s! I was very impressed with a couple of the contestants. 70’s music is FUN and some of the songs that were chosen I was very confused. Some big voices picked some horrible songs!
 My Favorites:

I love Brooke’s voice. She played her guitar to “You’re So Vain.”. Randy Jackson said, “It was a great song choice for you.” Paula Abdul said, “I feel like this was the perfect song choice for you.” Simon Cowell said, “Brooke, I absolutely loved it.”

This week Chikezie sang ‘I Believe’ by Donny Hathaway. No orange suit this week but he still got a little ping at Simon on what he wears.  Randy said “Chikezie is back! That was blazing.” Paula said, “It was brilliant. It was fun.” Simon said , “You looked better. You sounded better. It was a million times better than last week.” I really enjoyed the song!

David Cook sang ‘All Right Now’ by Bad Company. He performed this song by playing the electric guitar. He is definitely a rocker. Loved what he did this week. Randy said, ” You are a real rocker. I really kinda believed you.” Paula said, “You got it. It was very smart, very fun and very relevant to who you are.” Simon said, “It was solid and sorta believable.”

David Archuleta is a sweet young kid that sang ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon. WOW! This was a great performance. Paula even cried! Randy said, “Dog, that was one of the best vocals I’ve ever heard on this show. That was brilliant.” Paula said ” I want to squish you, squeeze your head off and dangle you from my rear view mirror.” Simon said, “You’re the one to beat. There are 19 very miserable contestants.” He is going to be hard to beat!
Now for my FAVORITE OF THE WEEK:

I enjoyed David Hernandez version of ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ by The Temptations. Actually I should say I LOVED IT!
Randy said, “This is the David Hernandez we fell in love with. That was hot right there!” Paula said, “Your voice is so pure. Your personality came out this week. ” Simon said, “The best vocal of the night so far.”
Tonight we find out who get kicked off!

Filed under: PARENTING — PinkMama @ 1:31 pm

I was getting a bit scared for the girls last night because the first 8 were only okay. I thought the energy level was very low and the song choices sucked! Then the last 4 did their THING!

My favorite two:

Syesha Mercado
Ramiele Malubay

 Good luck everyone!

Dora and SpongeBob Raisins February 19, 2008

I was reading my favorite magazine Family Fun and came across an ad for Cravin Raisins.  Now to put a healthy snack with Dora and SpongeBob image is a mom’s dream come true.  My kids always want the cartoon fruit snacks and sometimes I give in but not all the time.  Now if I brought home RAISINS in a Dora or SpongeBob pouch they would eat that healthy 100% natural with no sugar added snack for sure!   This product is sold at Walmart.  I’m not a big Walmart shopper but I will go for these cool snacks.

Just sharing a cool healthy snack idea with the moms/dads!

Organizing and Family February 16, 2008

Filed under: COOL SITES, ORGANIZATION, PARENTING — PinkMama @ 8:08 pm

As I mentioned in previous posts I’m TRYING to get my house organized.  However, my family seems to be a major road block.  How do I train them to want to clean up after themselves?  I have two young kids ( 3 & 6) and a husband that thinks I’m their personal maid.

The first week of organizing was wonderful.  My husband even tried to keep up with the house on the days I worked.  I loved coming home and actually being able to walk in the living room without tripping over toys or stepping on the PB/Jelly sandwich that was for lunch.  My house is functional but a bit cluttered.

The second week,  I kept up with everything and was doing little decluttering plus deep cleaning projects every day.  I was happy and felt so good to be in a clean house.  Then the eye rolls and the “I’ll do it later, promise” started happening.  Chores were getting neglected and “This is too much work, mommy” was the new phrase around here.  I know picking up dirty clothes off the floor takes all but 2 minutes.

The third week,  no one is on the cleaning bandwagon with me.  My hubby told me the other day that I knew he wasn’t a clean freak when I met him.  Well that didn’t go over very well with me because ummm that was 9 yrs ago and your a grown man now.  I’m not asking for him the clean the bathroom floor with a toothbrush but how about sweeping up the hair after he shaves.  Okay this is turning into a rant…sorry.  My kids are following daddy’s direction and telling me to CHILL OUT, yes that came out of my 6yr old.

Sunday will be my fourth week and I’m moving forward!   I’m not going to let them destroy my dream of a clean clutter-free home that I NEED to keep my sanity.

Whatever happened to~If mommy is happy then everyone is happy, lol.

I did my first day w/FlyLady January 29, 2008

Filed under: PARENTING — PinkMama @ 12:17 pm

I’m not doing the emails or everything she suggests, yet!  I’m doing her baby step program.

Yesterday~worked on the ZONE (living room).  I moved my living room around.   I was able to OPEN the room up more and now my kids can get to their toys/activities easier.  I felt real good after all that cleaning.  My sink stayed clean ALL DAY.  It was so nice waking up to a clean house (downstairs).  Now I need to conquer the upstairs.

DAY 1~DONE!  Felt good.

I’m doing this for 1 week and see how it helps me.

The Don’t Sweat Guide For Moms January 24, 2008

Filed under: PARENTING — PinkMama @ 2:16 pm

I love this book.  It helps me forget the stresses and remember the joys of raising children.  Very friendly advice that I need sometimes.  I’m going to talk about a chapter on here every so often.

Let’s start out with CHAPTER 1~ Defining Mother
*A mother is a lot of things~ teacher, caregiver, nurse, scientist, artist, chef, coach, chauffeur and sometimes even the father.  I can name even more hats I wear on a day to day basis.   I need a SUPERMOM shirt!

*A mother is compassionate, strong, independent, loving, nurturing, and resilient.  We are not always a saint though but we try!
*There is no formal training and we begin our duty the moment we become pregnant.  No official rulebook or any set instructions.  We learn from trial and error.  We are always on active duty.  A mother’s work is never done!  Isn’t that the truth!  I think the only time I breath normal is when everyone is sleeping and it’s quiet.
*Yes, it’s exhausting and no big paycheck at the end of the week.  But, the rewards of motherhood are plentiful!  When I get that big hug from my 6 yr old son and that “Mommy I love you” from my 3 yr old I just melt.

I really enjoy being a mom.  My two little bugs bring me joy everyday.  They are the reasons I get out of bed every morning.  Can I blame them for the 2 cups of coffee too? LOL!

Kids Eating Healthier January 8, 2008

Filed under: PARENTING — PinkMama @ 10:32 am

My son is in a school that promotes ORGANIC foods and they encourage parents to bring healthier snacks to school.  I went on the internet to do a little bit of research.  I came across a newsletter that gave me some great recipes plus interesting facts.

Here is something I didn’t know:

Ingredient to ‘Throw-Out’ of Your Children’s Diet Today: Red Food Dye #40 :f

Red 40 is a common food coloring dye added to a variety of products, including foods, vitamins and cold medicines. While it may make food esthetically pleasing in appearance, it can cause a negative reaction in those who consume it. Children are most often the ones who have sensitivity to red 40, whether or not their parents have realized it or not. Reactions include temper tantrums, hyperactivity, aggressive behavior, uncontrollable crying and screaming, kicking, nervousness, dizziness, inability to concentrate and sit still among other findings. Children and adults both may get frequent headaches or migraines, upset stomach and feel ill after ingesting this additive. Often when Red 40 is eliminated from the child’s diet a remarkable change is noticed immediately. Red 40 is also implicated a common trigger of migraines in adults.
