Do you have a Disorganized Purse? I DO! March 6, 2008

Filed under: COOL SITES, ORGANIZATION, Tips/Tricks — PinkMama @ 11:13 am

I’m a PURSE lady! I have purses in all colors and sizes. The one thing that always happens no matter what size the purse is, it’s always disorganized. I’m constantly trying to find this or that and its frustrating. I’ve been trying to find that perfect purse but I think its just me being messy!

On http://www.homemadesimple.com I found an informative article on How To Organize Your Purse/Briefcase:

Divide & Conquer the Clutter
A great way to conquer clutter in your purse, bag or briefcase is to divide the items you carry by their purpose and then store them in separate compartments. Keep small zippered bags like a makeup or pencil case inside your purse or bag where you can store loose items and organize all your essentials.
Storing common items in separate bags makes it easier for you to stay organized, find what you need and quickly switch to a different purse or bag when you’re on the go. Use bags of different colors to make it even easier to remember what you stored in each bag, and carry a small clip-on light or flashlight to help you find things inside your purse in limited light.

Organization Tips for Purse Necessities:

*Medicine and first-aid kit: Create a small first-aid kit with band aids, ointment, tissues, eye drops, throat lozenges and a small pill case with headache, allergy and other medicines you like to have on hand.

*Shopping essentials: Make trips to the store a more productive and pleasant experience by organizing your shopping essentials. Keep a zippered bag with coupons, a notepad, pen, loyalty cards, checkbook and a small calculator. Remember to sort through your coupons once a month and throw out ones that are expired or those you no longer need.

*Personal care: Use a zippered makeup bag for sample-sized bottles of lotion and hand sanitizer, lip balm, breath mints, a small brush or comb and other personal care products you use on a regular basis.

*Catch-all container: Despite our best efforts, bags tend to fill up with loose change, postage stamps and small pieces of trash like old receipts and candy wrappers. Create a catch-all bag for all those little items that don’t logically fit into your overall purse organization strategy. Use a clear plastic zip-top bag so you can see what’s inside it, or a cloth bag with a drawstring that you can wash and reuse. Whatever bag you choose, clean it out weekly to keep the clutter under control.

There are also many pre-fabricated purse organizers available in stores that may be helpful organization tools for you.

Briefcase Basics
With all the electronic equipment and other office-related tools we carry with us, it’s essential to keep our briefcase or laptop bag organized and clutter-free as well.

Take these simple steps to keep your work items organized when you’re on the go:
*Use color-coded folders to separate your files by subject and purpose. Use a red folder for your hottest “Must-Do” items, and keep it in a front pocket for easy access.
*Designate sections of your briefcase or bag for specific purposes, such as one area for your laptop, power cords and related items and another section for your cell phone, PDA or daily planner.
*Carry rubberbands or small bags to store power cords or chargers and keep them from getting tangled in your briefcase.
*Take time each month to clean out your briefcase or bag, file paperwork and restock supplies like pens and notepads.
More Time-Saving Tips
Staying organized when you’re on the go is a continuous process, so update important information on a regular basis.

*Keep a pocket-sized address book in your bag with important phone numbers like your favorite takeout restaurants, dentists, doctors, stores, car and home repair and others you might need when you’re out and about. Get even more organized by programming these important phone numbers into your cell phone or PDA.
*Also, carry a small notepad for taking notes and creating To-Do lists when you’re away from home. It will help you remember everything you need to accomplish while you’re out so you won’t need to make a second trip.

With a little planning and effort, you’ll be amazed at how you can cut down on clutter and keep all those things you carry with you every day more organized and easier to find.

I love all these ideas and will be implementing some TODAY!

Organizing and Family February 16, 2008

Filed under: COOL SITES, ORGANIZATION, PARENTING — PinkMama @ 8:08 pm

As I mentioned in previous posts I’m TRYING to get my house organized.  However, my family seems to be a major road block.  How do I train them to want to clean up after themselves?  I have two young kids ( 3 & 6) and a husband that thinks I’m their personal maid.

The first week of organizing was wonderful.  My husband even tried to keep up with the house on the days I worked.  I loved coming home and actually being able to walk in the living room without tripping over toys or stepping on the PB/Jelly sandwich that was for lunch.  My house is functional but a bit cluttered.

The second week,  I kept up with everything and was doing little decluttering plus deep cleaning projects every day.  I was happy and felt so good to be in a clean house.  Then the eye rolls and the “I’ll do it later, promise” started happening.  Chores were getting neglected and “This is too much work, mommy” was the new phrase around here.  I know picking up dirty clothes off the floor takes all but 2 minutes.

The third week,  no one is on the cleaning bandwagon with me.  My hubby told me the other day that I knew he wasn’t a clean freak when I met him.  Well that didn’t go over very well with me because ummm that was 9 yrs ago and your a grown man now.  I’m not asking for him the clean the bathroom floor with a toothbrush but how about sweeping up the hair after he shaves.  Okay this is turning into a rant…sorry.  My kids are following daddy’s direction and telling me to CHILL OUT, yes that came out of my 6yr old.

Sunday will be my fourth week and I’m moving forward!   I’m not going to let them destroy my dream of a clean clutter-free home that I NEED to keep my sanity.

Whatever happened to~If mommy is happy then everyone is happy, lol.

My week of FlyLady February 4, 2008

Filed under: ORGANIZATION — PinkMama @ 4:38 pm

Last week I tried Flylady’s baby steps and I have to tell you I did GREAT.  I might not follow everything she wants you to do but I’m doing pretty good.  I kept my sink clean all week, got dressed before 9am, started a morning and nighttime routine.

I have a schedule for Mon-Fri:

7-8:30: kids up, ready for school, drive to school.

8:30-10:30: coffee, personal comp time

10:30-12:30: House Cleaning

12:30-2:30: My DD special time (projects, park)

2:30-4:30: Business comp time

4:30-8:30: Family time

8:30-10:30: TV time

This morning my mom called and we talked for about 1hr 20 minutes so she really took me off my schedule.  Maybe I need to schedule her in there somewhere, lol!

If I get off my schedule which will happen a lot, I’m not going to get discouraged just move ahead.  I will always pick family time over computer time though.

My husband says he will try to help keep the house up.  He is very lazy and just steps overs the messes.  A messy house to him is no big deal but to me if my house is in disarray then I’m a mess!  I functioned mentally/physically better last week when my house was clean.

Every week I will have one room that will have a deep cleaning/purge done to it:

First week: Living Room

Second Week: Kitchen

Third Week: Bedrooms

Fourth Week: Bathroom/office/laundry room.

I gave the chore of keeping the outside clean to my husband.  But it looks like I might have to take that chore over again because hubby sucks.  The outside has not been touched in WEEKS.  I’m trying hard not to get mad or do it myself but its going to happen one way or the other, Lil!  Breathe and walk away.

Procrastination Pointers January 28, 2008

Filed under: ORGANIZATION — PinkMama @ 10:58 am

Procrastination is my biggest problem.  I should be cleaning right now for example!  Maybe this article will help me, lol!

I got this from  http://www.CreativeHomemaking.com

Procrastination is one of the biggest enemies we have to our Personal Productivity. Thinking about doing something and planning to do it are fine, but what if we fail to move ahead?

Procrastinating the unimportant items in our day is a useful talent. The problem for many, however, is that we are procrastinating the important and crucial items in our day, reducing our personal productivity and increasing our stress levels.

Here are five pointers to help you to better overcome procrastination. (You can implement them now or perhaps tomorrow.or better yet, next week.)

1. Daily planning the night before. “People don’t plan to fail but they sometimes fail to plan”. Without a plan of action in place before you arrive for work it is real easy to get caught up in “stuff”. The phone rings, someone drops by and you direct your time responding to the loudest voices demanding your attention rather than to the most important priorities on your plate. A plan of action, prepared the night before is like a roadmap for the next day. You know what your next step ought to be to get you into productive action and away from procrastination.

2. Work with a clean desk. “Out of sight, out of mind.” The reverse of that is just as true. When it’s in sight, it’s in mind and most of us cannot help but be distracted and our time is then directed to the less important and easier tasks causing us to put off the more important tasks. Working with a clean desk or clean work environment permits us to have only the most important task before us so that we can focus all of our attention on that task without other visual distractions.

3. Reduce large projects to bite-sized pieces. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Tomorrow you plan to work on a three-hour project. The problem is, many of us do not get three hours to work on any one item. We have to contend with interruptions, meetings, etc. (I don’t know that I even have an attention span that lasts for three hours!) And we often wind up procrastinating working on this task because “there’s not enough time to get this done”. So, instead of scheduling the entire three-hour project for tomorrow, schedule a small bite, a step or two that might take 20 or 30 minutes. Then put the next step on the next day’s To Do list and the next step after that on that next day’s list, etc. It may take several days, but you will get that elephant eaten up, one bite at a time.

4. Plan around interruptions. Interruptions tend to occur in identifiable patterns. I get most of my interruptions early in the day versus later in the day. I get most of my interruptions early in the week versus later in the week. So, if I plan a big project first thing Monday morning, I’m creating stress because as soon as I begin, interruptions arrive and re-focus my attention causing me to procrastinate what I really wanted to do. It is so much easier swimming downstream with the current rather than bucking the tide. Therefore, I plan those larger projects for later in the day and later in the week when I tend to get fewer interruptions.

5. Assign deadlines. Have you ever failed to achieve a New Year’s resolution? If so, that probably happened because you did not set a deadline. Deadlines move us to action. Without a deadline, things wind up in our “as soon as possible” pile, a “Never Never Land” where items will get attended to “someday”, “when I get the time”. Create a deadline and you will be moved to action.

Are YOU living in CHAOS (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome)~love this!!! January 26, 2008

Filed under: ORGANIZATION — PinkMama @ 7:33 pm

I’m on a mission TO GET ORGANIZED by 2009.  I’m taking one step at a time.  So I’ve been doing a little research online and was reminded about Flylady.net.  There is a wide selection of information on this site. I plan on using the sample routines FIRST.  I love the first question she asked on her site Are YOU living in CHAOS (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome)….hmmm, yes!    It’s not like I have food stuck to the walls or dirty diapers on the floor but I do have clothes on the couch and dishes in my sink.  I want to live CLUTTER FREE.  My 900 sq feet house is telling me I have way too much stuff.  I’m going to give Flylady a shot for one week at least.

15 Minute CleanUp for Every Room January 21, 2008

Filed under: ORGANIZATION — PinkMama @ 11:12 am

http://housekeeping.about.com/od/timesavingideas/a/15MinuteClean.htm

What a 15 Minute Cleanup Is:

A 15 Minute Cleanup is a brief step-by-step guide to cleaning a room in 15 minutes or less. While the room may not be white glove clean, it will be presentable to guests. 15 Minute Cleanups are a great way to maintain a home in between more thorough cleanings. These cleanups include step-by-step instructions, a list of supplies, tips, and links for more thorough information.

What a 15 Minute Cleanup Isn’t:

A 15 Minute Cleanup is not the only cleaning regimen you’ll need to keep your home in tip top shape. It’s not an intense cleaning, but only a brief pickup of a room. To really keep a home clean, more thorough work will need to be done according to your cleaning schedule. Before intensely cleaning a room, it’s a good idea to start with that room’s quick 15 Minute Cleanup.

I really like this idea!  I think I will give this a try in my house.  I seem to be the only one who cleans in my house.  I worked yesterday and came home to a very messy house.  I was a bit mad but I guess I’m the only one who cares.
