Cheap Movies for the kids! July 8, 2008

Filed under: COOL SITES, ENTERTAINMENT, PARENTING — PinkMama @ 11:52 am

One of the activities that we do during the summer is go to the $1 movies on Wednesday’s mornings.  Of course my kids have watched all the movies they show but it’s still fun to go.

The AMC movie theater offers a $3.00 kid snack pack.  This week we are going to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks.  Plus in this unexpected heat that we are having right now, I’m happy to be somewhere nice and COOL for a couple hours.

Hope this helps some parents with summer activities.

Pump It Up Birthday Party May 19, 2008

Filed under: COOL SITES, ENTERTAINMENT, PARENTING, PRODUCT REVIEWS — PinkMama @ 10:07 am

My son’s best friend had a birthday party yesterday at Pump It Up.  I was quite impressed.  We all gathered and watched a video about the rules then we all went in to this huge room with 3 gigantic inflatables.  Kids and parents went wild!  We played in one room for about 45 minutes and then ushered into another room with different inflatables.  Everyone was having fun.  I even took off my shoes and went down one slide.  The small kids were right there with the big kids having a blast.  After playing for another 45 minutes then we got to go into another room with pizza and ice cream cake.  The parents raved about how little they had to do because the Pump It Up staff took care of all the details, set-up, and the clean-up.  My son now wants to have his birthday party there.  I highly recommend it too every parent who just wants to have fun with the kids!

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium April 20, 2008

Filed under: ENTERTAINMENT, SHOPPING DEALS — Sizzle @ 3:18 pm

This DVD was recently released to the public. We originally rented it from the library to see if it was one we would like. My three year old son kept talking for weeks afterward about the ‘lovin monkey’. It took me awhile to figure out WHAT LOVIN MONKEY??? :) Well, after hearing that it was ‘Mr. Gorium’s lovin monkey’ I knew that the movie needed to be in our very own DVD library. (Here’s a picture of him if you are wondering what the ‘lovin monkey looks like)

My review on the movie is that it is a very nice FAMILY movie. This is one you need not worry about your children watching again and again. Very nice little plot for little tots…and big ones too. :)
Lucky YOU, it is on sale right now at Amazon!

Editorial Review
Amazon.com
Equal parts whimsical and bittersweet, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium is a family-friendly movie that will charm youngsters. Dustin Hoffman stars in the titular role of an eccentric 243-year-old owner of a magical toy store. He doesn’t appear to be sick, but he has lived a long and happy life and is content to leave his emporium to his employee Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman). A former child prodigy who has grown up unsure of herself, she barely knows who she is, much less what she wants to become. Molly is both frightened that her beloved boss is leaving and that she will be left in charge of a store she doesn’t know how to run. “Are you dying?” she asks him. Magorium points out, “Light bulbs die, my dear. I am departing.” His take on death is both comforting and matter of fact, things younger viewers may find soothing when dealing with mortality. Though the film has drawn comparisons to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this G-rated venture is less dark, curious and interesting than the former. Still, it offers dazzling visuals and a premise that who you are isn’t equivalent with who you think you are. Adult moviegoers may find the premise cloying and repetitive. But seen from a child’s eye, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium is indeed a magical place for a short visit. –Jae-Ha Kim

If you don’t know about this site YOU SHOULD!  Just drop the name of one of your favorite songs or artists into Pandora.  It will quickly scan its entire world of analyzed music, almost a century of popular recordings - new and old, well known and completely obscure - to find songs with interesting musical similarities to your choice. Then sit back and enjoy as it creates a listening experience full of current and soon-to-be favorite songs for you.

I love smooth R&B and the stations they made for me were perfect.

Go make some music:

Oprah’s Big Give Show-Love It! March 30, 2008

Filed under: COOL SITES, ENTERTAINMENT — PinkMama @ 7:59 am

This is a FEEL GOOD show.  I’ve cried every single show I’ve watched.  People helping other people is something you don’t see that much.  This show is very inspiring to help out when/where you can.

The contestants must use their creativity and resources to generate the most powerful and sensational ways to make a real difference, and with the clock ticking, the competition, drama and emotion mount and the contestants’ stamina, creativity and drive are tested.  Sometimes they have days but sometimes just a couple hours.

This show tugs at my heart strings and it’s my favorite reality show right now.

It airs Sunday nights: 9pm/8pm central time

Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who March 20, 2008

Filed under: COOL SITES, ENTERTAINMENT, RECIPES, SHOPPING DEALS — PinkMama @ 1:55 pm

We have spring break next week so I thought I would take the kids to see this movie.  A friend went already and said she laughed thru out the whole movie probably more than her kids did.

Go to http://www.hortonmovie.com/splash.html to get movie tickets, downloads, games, and even watch a trailer.

Our house loves Dr. Seuss we even have the Green Eggs and Ham Cookbook!

Our favorite drink is the Pink Yink Ink Drink because its fun to make:

1/2 pint fresh or 1/2 cup frozen blackberries (thawed)

1 cup milk

6 fresh strawberries, green tops removed of course (lol) or 1/2 cup frozen strawberries

1 teaspoon of honey

  • Put the blackberries in a blender and puree them
  • Pour into a large glass
  • Put in milk, strawberries, and honey in the blender and mix.
  • Strain the mixture (optional-we don’t)
  • Pour the strawberry mixture carefully on top of the blackberries

You can get the cookbook at the library, bookstores and on Amazon for $ 11.53.

American Idol- Season 7 Quick Overview of 3/11 show March 12, 2008

Filed under: COOL SITES, ENTERTAINMENT — PinkMama @ 7:04 am

Amanda Overmyer, Carly Smithson, David Cook and Brooke White gave a brilliant performances.  They all better be safe tonight.

Chikezie gave the BEST performance of the night though.  He mixed that song up and did it his way and I loved it.  I’m actually going to download his song and I’ve never done that before.

Jason Castro, Michael Johns, Syesha Mercado, Ramiele Malubay they were good but I don’t think they are safe.

Now for  David Archuleta wow he really choked under the pressure last night.  I cringed when he forgot the words.  He is going to be safe but he can’t let happen again.  He will turn it around though so no worries Archuleta fans.

Good luck to everyone!

Top 20-American Idol 7 February 28, 2008

Filed under: ENTERTAINMENT, PARENTING — PinkMama @ 12:16 pm

I watched both shows last night (thanks DVR). I really enjoy to see what everyone was going to do for the 70’s! I was very impressed with a couple of the contestants. 70’s music is FUN and some of the songs that were chosen I was very confused. Some big voices picked some horrible songs!
 My Favorites:

I love Brooke’s voice. She played her guitar to “You’re So Vain.”. Randy Jackson said, “It was a great song choice for you.” Paula Abdul said, “I feel like this was the perfect song choice for you.” Simon Cowell said, “Brooke, I absolutely loved it.”

This week Chikezie sang ‘I Believe’ by Donny Hathaway. No orange suit this week but he still got a little ping at Simon on what he wears.  Randy said “Chikezie is back! That was blazing.” Paula said, “It was brilliant. It was fun.” Simon said , “You looked better. You sounded better. It was a million times better than last week.” I really enjoyed the song!

David Cook sang ‘All Right Now’ by Bad Company. He performed this song by playing the electric guitar. He is definitely a rocker. Loved what he did this week. Randy said, ” You are a real rocker. I really kinda believed you.” Paula said, “You got it. It was very smart, very fun and very relevant to who you are.” Simon said, “It was solid and sorta believable.”

David Archuleta is a sweet young kid that sang ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon. WOW! This was a great performance. Paula even cried! Randy said, “Dog, that was one of the best vocals I’ve ever heard on this show. That was brilliant.” Paula said ” I want to squish you, squeeze your head off and dangle you from my rear view mirror.” Simon said, “You’re the one to beat. There are 19 very miserable contestants.” He is going to be hard to beat!
Now for my FAVORITE OF THE WEEK:

I enjoyed David Hernandez version of ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ by The Temptations. Actually I should say I LOVED IT!
Randy said, “This is the David Hernandez we fell in love with. That was hot right there!” Paula said, “Your voice is so pure. Your personality came out this week. ” Simon said, “The best vocal of the night so far.”
Tonight we find out who get kicked off!

Big Brother 9 February 16, 2008

Filed under: COOL SITES, ENTERTAINMENT — PinkMama @ 8:36 pm

This season has a weird twist.  For the first time the cast will not play the game as individuals, but as couples partnered with their BB soul mate.  Houseguests will compete as couples, win Head of Household as couples, be nominated and be evicted as couples.  That also includes sleeping in the same bed.

Two different couples knew each other from outside of the BB house.  One of the couples were ex’s and not on good terms.  They should have kept that secret between them for a little bit longer because they were the first couple eliminated. Ouch!  The second couple have been dating for months but were not matched up.  They didn’t tell anyone at first but it did come out and their partners were not happy!

To keep up with the BB drama I go to:

Showtime also airs Big Brother 9 After Hours:

Movies on iTunes~ Wow! January 27, 2008

Filed under: ENTERTAINMENT — PinkMama @ 12:48 pm

This might be my only way I can watch movies in my house.  My son and husband have the other TV on lockdown with their Playstation2/XBox 360.

You can download movie rentals!  http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/movies.html

Standard-definition movie rentals are $2.99 for library titles and $3.99 for new releases. And for just a dollar more, you can rent HD movies directly from your widescreen TV via Apple TV. Rent a movie and you have 30 days to start watching it. Hit Play, and you have 24 hours to finish it — or play it as many times as you want. Rentals disappear when they expire, so they won’t take up storage space on your hard drive.

 Have fun!
