Blue-Jean Book Bag:
CRAFT MATERIALS
Pair of jeans
Scissors
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Cotton belt
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Zip the jeans and turn them inside out. With a pair of fabric scissors (a parent’s job), cut off both jean legs 3 inches from the crotch. Set aside. Next, fold the cutoff jeans, matching up the side seams as you would to press front and back leg pleats.
2. Using a sewing machine (or a close, even hand stitch), sew closed each leg opening 1 inch from the cut edge. Trim the denim 1/2 inch from the stitching.
3. Turn the jeans right-side out. For a handle, thread a cotton belt through the belt loops and tie the ends together.

You save 63% off the retail price of $150.00
The cozy, comfy, super soft, fleece lined Red Castle Footmuff doubles as snug bedding either in the carrycot or even in a tent, and to keep baby warm and dry in their stroller. It has two way zips, and that couldn’t be simpler for getting baby in and out. The top part zips off completely and the footmuff is warmly quilted!
All weather protection, the footmuff is breathable, windproof, and waterproof and has a stain repellent finish. It’s machine washable too!!
This would make the perfect baby gift for the couple who goes camping. Plus it’s machine washable, big plus in my book.

*You’ll find the best prices THURSDAY evenings at major retailors.
*Looking for a particular item that you like but cost too much then check back in 6-8 after item arrived in store.
*Check newspapers for sales or coupons. Make sure to check all pages!
*Clothing retailers often are willing to make a deal, especially if you’ve found same item for less at a competitor’s. This works best if the staff knows you has a regular shopper or if your buying in bulk.
*Shop used and discounted: TheThriftShopper.com-get a list of thrift shops around your area. Call and ask when they get their deliveries, and shop on those days to get the best stuff.
*For more upscale items go to ConsignmentShops.com to find stores that sell fancier used clothing.
*Outlet Malls are always good for a good sale on name brand items. You can check out Outletbound.com for malls around your area.

* Buy local. We go to the farmers market by our house every Tuesday and get fresh veggies and yummy fruit.
* Check out Food Co-ops they offer discounts to members.
*Cut/Print Coupons- Couponmom.com is a GREAT site because it offers freebies, advice, other discounts, and more.
*If you shop at Kroger go to kroger.com and click on P&E esaver-choose your coupons and type in kroger card number and they will be automatically downloaded to your card. Next time you go shopping the cashier will apply the downloaded coupons.
* Sign up for your grocery store savings card. I shop at Safeway and have a card through them that also helps my son’s school.
* Compare Prices: Go to groceryguide.com and it will compare prices at local stores without wasting gas driving around looking for that right sale.
*Sign up for sale alerts with your favorite grocers.

This article gave me some great sites and advice: http://www.usaweekend.com/08_issues/080720/080720save-money.html. You really need to check it out. I’m going to post the tips they offered every day for the next 9 days.
Here is a quick overview of some of the GAS tips:
* The Discover Open Road card offers a 5 % rebate on gas and car maintenance up $1200 annually. (Good idea but I don’t want to open another credit card account, too many already)
* Go to BedandBreakfast.com for a list of B&B that have deals. (Now maybe I can get the hubby to go to B&B for our anniversary in Sept)
* Bookit.com offers half-price gas cards and flight credits up to $200 on some packages.
* Join Choice Hotels’ Choice Privilege’s program and, after 3 stays you can receive a $50 gas card.
* Price-Shop: go to GasBuddy.com to get best prices wherever you go-just enter your driving info.
* Share a ride- check with carpoolworld.com or eRideShare.com to connect with other drivers or passengers.

In my inbox this morning was my weekly newsletter from http://www.familycorner.com. In the newsletter there are always crafts, things to do, parent info, and recipes. One article caught my eye immediately, HOMEMADE SLUSHIES. Every week my kids say “Can we go get a Slurpee” my response is “No, sorry too expensive”. The main reason I don’ t do this is because the closest 7-11 is 25 miles away and it would take me at least 45-60 minutes to get there. Traffic and the cost of gas just sucks!
I know this will help on those HOT days we have been getting lately. Plus it’s very easy too make.
Slushies
1 package of unsweetened Kool-Aid drink mix, any flavor
2 cups of water
1/2 - 3/4 cup sugar
4 cups ice
In a blender, combine Kool-Aid, water and sugar. Blend. Add all the ice and blend. Done!
Variations: For Coca Cola, simply add one can of Coke and enough ice to cover and blend. Or add a scoop of ice cream before pouring in the slushie, yum!
NOTE: It is best to use a blender with an “ice crushing” feature on it.

Have fun and have a slushie good time this summer, lol!

If not you need to be…
A couple weeks ago I signed up for freecycle and I love it! I got rid of items that I was afraid to give to charity but felt someone could use. You can post items you are looking for and there might be someone out there that wants to get rid of it or you can post items that you want to give away. Everything is FREE! I put out my items when I said I would and “poof” they were gone. It’s a great resource.
This is their mission statement:
Our mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community.
