Dish-washing Tips and Tricks April 30, 2008

I will have to tell you dish washing is one of my least favorite chores in the house.  I was raised that whoever cooked dinner didn’t have to do dishes but that doesn’t work in my house.  I know I have raised this issue a couple (okay actually several )times to my husband but he just doesn’t GET it!  Tiny vent, lol!  Anyways here are couple great tips:

~Pamper yourself after washing dishes by giving yourself a hand massage with some nice smelling hand cream.  I have my hand cream by the sink so I don’t forget.

~Revitalize your dishwasher (wish I had one, lol): Each month run the machine empty on short cycle w/2 cups of vinegar in the detergent spot.  It will brighten up the interior.  Remember this from back in the day when I did have a dishwasher.

~Burnt food on pans/pots: slightly dampen spots, sprinkle liberally with baking soda and leave overnight.  Use your scourer to remove the remains the next day.  You can also use this for the bottom of the oven too!

LOL! I’m just kidding of course (okay not really) but I’m just giving him hints of things I like. After 10 yrs you would think he would understand I love jewelry but then after 10 yrs he probably wishes I would understand he isn’t the jewelry buyer, lol!

No Posts~ Sorry!

Filed under: MISC — PinkMama @ 5:48 pm

I went camping with my 2 kids and my mom for a couple days.  I brought my laptop because the campground advertised they had WIFI so I just assumed I would be able to connect online with no problem.  Ummm NO!  WIFI costs $25.00 a day well I’m cheap and didn’t want to pay that fee.  Love blogging, checking email, and being online but $25 was way too much for me, lol!  I did put in $40 at the arcade in Santa Cruz and I felt good about that because my kids had a blast.  Off to find some deals.

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium April 20, 2008

Filed under: ENTERTAINMENT, SHOPPING DEALS — Sizzle @ 3:18 pm

This DVD was recently released to the public. We originally rented it from the library to see if it was one we would like. My three year old son kept talking for weeks afterward about the ‘lovin monkey’. It took me awhile to figure out WHAT LOVIN MONKEY??? :) Well, after hearing that it was ‘Mr. Gorium’s lovin monkey’ I knew that the movie needed to be in our very own DVD library. (Here’s a picture of him if you are wondering what the ‘lovin monkey looks like)

My review on the movie is that it is a very nice FAMILY movie. This is one you need not worry about your children watching again and again. Very nice little plot for little tots…and big ones too. :)
Lucky YOU, it is on sale right now at Amazon!

Editorial Review
Amazon.com
Equal parts whimsical and bittersweet, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium is a family-friendly movie that will charm youngsters. Dustin Hoffman stars in the titular role of an eccentric 243-year-old owner of a magical toy store. He doesn’t appear to be sick, but he has lived a long and happy life and is content to leave his emporium to his employee Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman). A former child prodigy who has grown up unsure of herself, she barely knows who she is, much less what she wants to become. Molly is both frightened that her beloved boss is leaving and that she will be left in charge of a store she doesn’t know how to run. “Are you dying?” she asks him. Magorium points out, “Light bulbs die, my dear. I am departing.” His take on death is both comforting and matter of fact, things younger viewers may find soothing when dealing with mortality. Though the film has drawn comparisons to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this G-rated venture is less dark, curious and interesting than the former. Still, it offers dazzling visuals and a premise that who you are isn’t equivalent with who you think you are. Adult moviegoers may find the premise cloying and repetitive. But seen from a child’s eye, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium is indeed a magical place for a short visit. –Jae-Ha Kim

Where is the Sibling Love? April 17, 2008

Filed under: PARENTING — PinkMama @ 12:30 pm

Lately, my house has been a war zone.  My two kids can not/will not get along and it’s driving me NUTS!  My youngest will be turning 4 next week and she has been reminding us EVERYDAY that it will be her birthday soon.  She tends to rub it in a lot and I think my 6 yr son is just tired of hearing her talk about her party.  I think he forgets he does the same exact thing in December when it is his birthday.

Time-out doesn’t work with this dilemma (in my eyes) so I thought HUGGING IT OUT would work.  I was wrong!  When they started fighting I separated them and explained this is not the way to treat family.  I wanted the kids to hug until they could calm down and say sorry to each other.  Well the 4yr old decides to chomp down on the 6yr old shoulder because he pinched her arm.  That was fun.  Back to the drawing board!

I took out a couple parenting books (yes I do read these) and came up with a new plan.  My kids love to earn prizes, treats, or little outings so I found the perfect solution to our sibling rivalry.  Bean Counters!  Every time we see them treating each other nice, with respect, or even doing something for the other one we will put a bean in their jar.  Now if we see them fighting, teasing, or anything that we feel is inappropriate behavior towards the other one then they get a bean taken away.  The jars I found are a little bigger than a baby food jar so I think it might take them a couple weeks to fill up.  It’s worth a shot.  Because I just want to pull my hair out!

Does anyone else have something that works in their house?
